Christie’s Cente for Refugee Children received a generous capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to create an indoor gym for unaccompanied refugee youth residing at the Centre for Refugee Children’s emergency youth shelter, Anchor House.
The gym opened this month and has become a beloved hang-out spot for the youth living at Anchor House; a small, tucked away corner at the Centre for young people to stay physically active amidst a particularly heavy winter. The gym is equipped with weights, stationary bikes, lifting benches, and rowing machines.
We’re so thankful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this investment in creating vital spaces for socialization and physical activity onsite at Anchor House.
In addition to the gym, the capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation also allowed the Centre for Refugee Children’s Anchor House to purchase a dining room table, study room table, chairs, outdoor BBQ and dining set in an effort to foster even more places and spaces of togetherness and good health for refugee youth.
