Refugee Sponsorship

The Refugee Sponsorship Program assists churches and interested groups in sponsoring refugees from overseas.

Working with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), staff engage and train new churches, liaise with the CIC and sponsors, and offer administrative support for the application process. CRWC is currently managing applications for more than 100 refugees awaiting decisions in 16 countries.

From the date of the refugee(s) arrival in Canada, the church promises to provide financial and settlement support to the sponsored refugee(s) for 12 months or until they become self-sufficient.

The financial assistance must cover the cost of food, shelter, clothing and essential household furnishings and goods.

The refugee(s) have family members here in Canada who may be in a position to offer some of the financial, settlement and emotional support that they will need during their first year in Canada.

The church remains the sponsoring group but works together with the family in Canada to provide all the support that is required.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will provide financial assistance to cover the cost of food, accommodation, clothing and essential household goods.

The sponsor’s role is to provide orientation, settlement assistance and emotional support.

Joint Assistance Sponsorship requires a 24 to 36 month commitment on the part of the sponsors.

Each year CRWC hosts approximately 450 refugee claimants from 30 countries.
