Announcing the Retirement of Linda Moorcroft, Executive Director
For the past two decades, Linda Moorcroft has been at the helm of Christie Refugee Welcome Centre. Linda began her career in December 1997 as the Manager of World Vision Reception Centre. In 1997, the Centre was receiving and providing settlement services for more than 500 government assisted refugees annually. Linda led the organization through major transitions including working with Citizenship and Immigration Canada in the resettlement of GARs, to working with the City of Toronto to provide emergency shelter and initial settlement services for refugee claimants. Linda provided tremendous leadership as the Centre transitioned to independence from its parent organization, World Vision Canada, to the new stand-alone entity of Christie Refugee Welcome Centre.
Linda has also been instrumental in growing the Centre from the core shelter program to include: Outreach Program and services, an on-site health clinic, as well as church and community engagement. Linda has extended the financial capacity of CRWC allowing us to embark on major capital renovations including resident bathroom renovations, program space and most recently a playground/outdoor garden and to develop new programs such as Women’s Wellness, Summer Camps, and Children’s Literacy and Fitness programs.
Linda’s influence has been spread more broadly through her participation with the Refugee Highway Partnership, serving on both global and North American leadership teams.
Linda has infused the Centre with her heart for refugees ensuring that it is truly a place of welcome, safety and support. She has embraced and embodied our core values in her service and ministry.
Linda will complete her tenure with the organization on November 30, 2017, after a transition with the new Executive Director Sam Chaise.
